Why This Exists
A love letter,
from the bench.

I've been elbow-deep in vintage receivers since I was a teenager — pulling dried filter caps out of Marantz 22-series chassis, reflowing solder on Sansui output boards, chasing DC offset on McIntosh preamps at midnight. There's a sound these machines make that no modern class-D amp has ever gotten quite right. A warmth. A weight. Music you can lean into.
But here's the problem. People walk into estate sales, flea markets, and eBay auctions every day, get charmed by a set of glowing dials, and pay two thousand dollars for a piece that needs another thousand in restoration — without ever knowing there's a current-production amp that'll get them 85 percent of the way to that same sound, brand new, for less. And vice versa: people buy shiny modern gear when the vintage original is sitting on Craigslist two towns over for a quarter of the price.
SoundMatch is my attempt to end that confusion. Type any classic receiver, amp, turntable, or speaker from the golden era. In two seconds you'll see the modern equivalent side-by-side — full specs, honest prices, the whole picture. Then take a boutique tour with Liam, who'll walk you through the model's history, its restoration quirks, and what a fair market price actually looks like today.
It works both ways, too. Type a modern piece and I'll show you which vintage originals still smoke it. And on Pro, you get the cross-match engine — point us at a pair of vintage speakers and we'll surface the receivers with enough headroom to drive them cleanly. Or start with a receiver and we'll match speakers and turntables that fit it on power, impedance, and era. That's how you build a system that actually sings together, not just one that looks good on paper.
If it helps you buy smarter, tell a friend. That's how this thing grows. — Peter
