Privacy Policy

SoundMatch ("we", "our", "us") is a vintage-to-modern hi-fi comparison service. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have over that information. If anything here is unclear, email us at privacy@soundmatch.app.
1. What we collect
We collect the minimum amount of personal information needed to run the service:
- Email address — when you sign up for a SoundMatch account or subscribe to a price-drop alert.
- Password (hashed) — stored using bcrypt. We never see or store your plain-text password.
- Purchase & billing data — if you buy a report, Stripe processes your payment and gives us back only your Stripe customer ID and payment status. We never see or store your card number.
- Usage clicks & alert history — anonymous counters that help us improve the site (e.g., which gear pages are visited, which affiliate links are clicked).
2. How we use it
- To send you the price-drop alert emails you asked for.
- To provide your purchased reports and let you log in.
- To measure how the site is used so we can make it better.
- To comply with legal obligations (tax, fraud prevention).
We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with advertisers. Full stop.
3. Third-party services we use
- Stripe — payment processing for Pro subscriptions. See stripe.com/privacy.
- Resend — email delivery for price-drop alerts. See resend.com/legal/privacy-policy.
- eBay Partner Network — we participate as an affiliate. When you click an “Buy on eBay” link, eBay may set cookies to attribute the referral. See eBay Privacy Notice.
4. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Ask what data we have about you.
- Ask us to correct any of your data.
- Ask us to delete your account and everything associated with it.
- Unsubscribe from all emails at any time (each email has a one-click unsubscribe link).
- Withdraw consent for us to process your data (this will disable your account).
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@soundmatch.app. We'll act within 30 days.
5. Data retention
Account data is kept as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we purge all associated data within 30 days, except where we're legally required to keep payment records (typically 7 years for tax purposes).
6. eBay Marketplace Account Deletion
If you delete your eBay account, eBay notifies us via a secure webhook and we permanently remove any of your associated data (price alerts, click history) within 30 days, in compliance with eBay's Marketplace Account Deletion policy.
7. Cookies
We use only strictly-necessary cookies (to keep you logged in). We do not use tracking cookies or advertising cookies. Third-party services (Stripe, eBay) may set their own cookies during checkout or affiliate clicks — those are governed by their privacy policies.
8. Children
SoundMatch is not intended for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16.
9. Changes to this policy
We'll post any changes here and, if the change is material, email logged-in users. Continued use of the service after a change means you accept the new policy.
